In 2026, Cincinnati Permaculture Institute Found a Permanent Home in East Price Hill.

Now we need your help RESTORING AND CARING FOR it.

In 2026, CPI assumed ownership of three properties on Enright Ave & 8th Street in East Price Hill. We’ve been connected to these sites for over a decade through relationships with our neighbors, including Enright Ecovillage, Urban Earth Farms and Tending Roots, and are proud and excited at the opportunity to steward them into the future. The sites include:

  • A mixed-use building at the corner of 8th and Enright, formerly a pub with an outdoor courtyard on the first floor and an unoccupied (at time of purchase) 1-bedroom apartment on the second floor, and unfinished space on the third floor

    • Having eliminated the liquor license, the intention is to use this building as a community gathering space, retail and resource space, indoor classroom, and a “hub” for urban permaculture — something that benefits and uplifts the entire neighborhood

  • The site where Growing Value Nursery has been operating together with Urban Earth Farms, which includes a 100+ year old greenhouse, indoor retail and storage space, and the nursery lot

  • The “Icehouse Lot,” a formerly vacant lot between Enright and Terry St that has been slowly transforming into a permaculture demonstration site/outdoor classroom and a potential community forage garden.

WHAT IS NEEDED?

For these properties to reach their potential, material resources and financial resources will be essential. We are seeking contributions related to the following needs and goals:

  • SIGNAGE: New roadside signage for each lot; possibly lighting

  • SECURITY: Locks, cameras, lights, and alert systems

  • HVAC: replace a stolen A/C unit and secure from theft

  • REPAIRS: Water damage, replacing vinyl siding, possible deck construction

  • PAINT AND FURNISHINGS: giving the retail spaces at the corner building and greenhouse a deep clean and refresh to make them more hospitable for future use

  • SHADE COVERAGE for the pavement pad in front of the nursery

  • JUNK REMOVAL of assets left over from the previous pub

  • PLANT GROWING & PROPAGATION SUPPLIES to transform old greenhouse into new growing space

  • PROPERTY RENTAL MANAGEMENT: establishing tenancy for the 2nd floor apartment

Along the way, our intention is to do this as “permaculturally” as possible. The ultimate vision for these sites is not only to serve our organizational needs but to be a living example of how permaculture can be done, particularly in the city. So we are looking for local, sustainable solutions and materials, and ideas for getting things done in a mindful, resourceful, “scrappy” way, making use of existing available resources — including those present in our community.
