“HOW CAN I HELP?”

Our October 3 Homecoming Party at the newly named Corner Commons is shaping up, and as we’ve begun inviting the community, some are asking how they can help in the meantime. Well, glad you asked! There are a few inputs we could use…

To-do items at the Commons include replacing light bulbs, testing the audio system, patching holes, organizing items for display or storage, removing weeds and debris from the yard, replacing rotten boards and missing ceiling tiles, touching up paint, general cleaning, moving furniture, decorating, and event setup/tear-down. There could also be spruce-up tasks at the Nursery storefront and the Icehouse garden. A CPI representative will be present to lead volunteers on Friday, September 18 (3-7PM); Sundays, September 20 and 27 (11AM-3PM); and Friday, October 2 (3-7PM). Setup for the event will start at 1 PM on Saturday October 3, and cleanup should wrap by 10:30. If you’d like to volunteer outside these times, let us know - we might be able to accommodate your schedule!

IN-KIND DONATIONS AND OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS

Live Music: 5-7:30 PM. Seeking small acoustic acts for background music during the social portions of the event
Door Prizes: Items and services to give away to guests as thank-you’s for coming
Ingredients for chef Jordan to use in his locally-sourced, seasonally-inspired menu: apples, pumpkin, potatoes, peppers, tomato, and corn
Pumpkins, gourds, and cut flowers to use for decor
Folding tables and tablecloths
Name tags
Fans: We have no A/C inside, so every fan will help!
Outdoor torch lights for sunset ambience
Testimonials: Could you write a paragraph or two, or record a short video, explaining why permaculture in Cincinnati is worth supporting?
Prepare something for the UnTalent Show: Just about anything counts as a talent for this low-stakes open-mic style event, a permaculture design class tradition.
Other ideas? Open to creative, low-to-no-cost suggestions!

VOLUNTEER AT THE NURSERY

Work side by side with Howie to learn about plants and their care!September Volunteer hours for Growing Value Nursery are Wednesdays, 9AM-12PM and Thursdays, 5PM-8PM/Dusk. Tasks include watering, maintaining, and moving plants, removing invasive weeds, and preparing the nursery for fall plant sales.

Growing Value Nursery is located at 824 Enright Ave. and includes the “Icehouse” lot on the corner of Enright and Price. Check both places if you’re coming as a walk-in volunteer!

CORRECTION: NKY Candidate Forum - Weds., September 23, 6:00-7:30 PM in Erlanger, KY

Cincinnati Permaculture Institute, in collaboration with Green Umbrella's Greenspace Alliance and partners, invite you to join us for part two of an in-person candidate forum on balancing economic development and greenspace preservation in Northern Kentucky, featuring County Commissioner candidates running for local office in Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties.

The forum will take place on Wednesday, September 23rd from 6-7:30 pm in the Anne Room of the Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Library. We mistakenly listed this date as September 3 in the last newsletter so wanted to issue a correction in this message. RSVP here to reserve your spot!
